Capcom may have referenced Resident Evil 9 during Resident Evil 4 remake tribute video (2025)

Some gamers think Capcom made some unexpected Resident Evil 9 news during a Resident Evil 4 remake tribute. Observant fans noticed a signpost in the shape of the Roman numeral "IX." Resident Evil 9 leaks have suggested a shift toward open-world gameplay.

To thank players for their Resident Evil 4 remake support, Capcom shared a celebration video on social media. While selling 10 million copies is impressive, gamers are always looking toward the future. Resident Evil 9 leaks ramped up in 2024 before the publisher confirmed its existence later in the year. Since then, followers of the survival horror series have had few updates. However, Capcom, possibly referencing the game in the recent video, has players hoping for more Resident Evil 9 news.

Toward the end of the clip, viewers see a close-up of a wooden signpost. On the sign are thank you messages to players for supporting Resident Evil 4. When rotating the planks of wood, they become the Roman numeral "IX." The design could be coincidental, but many gamers suspect it was intentional.

Dusk Golem is among the observers who think Capcom teased a new game. A source of Resident Evil 9 leaks, Dusk Golem believes news about the title could be coming soon. He notes that the signs in the Resident Evil 4 remake have a different appearance.

A long-time follower of the franchise, Golem has made some intriguing Resident Evil 9 predictions. He previously revealed that the game has been in the works since 2018. To explain the long development cycle, one of his reports claimed that it would have open-world elements. More specifically, the game would take place in a fictional town in an island setting. Prior titles evolved with different camera perspectives and changing emphasis on action or survival mechanics.

Gamers should avoid jumping to conclusions based on a wooden sign. Even some of Dusk Golem's Resident Evil 9 release date projections haven't materialized. Nevertheless, fans are on high alert for an official update, potentially at a rumored May PlayStation Showcase.
